! feelin' the funk - a ninjatune special !

hello. to round the current groove off in fine style i have sorted out a full and frank interview with grand mal main man - bill whitten. go have a read, tis well worth it. but today my head was spun around by the arrival of some excellent new stuff. and all from the same place. ninjatune yes. after a slightly dry period when it comes to beats and suchlike comes a sudden influx of supremeness. firstly there is the debut from treva whateva, music's made of memories - it's a fun sample overload album and contains a few solid classics, review tba. but will appeal to fans of BRA thats for sure. nest up is the cd/dvd combo package - 'keepintime' - where those of us uk-side get to see and hear what all the fuss is about. if you have checked out the recent DJ Shadow dvds then there is a snippet from this multiple legendary collaboration on there. combining some classic old school jazz drummers (earl palmer! roy porter! paul humphrey! james gadson!) with some top of the range dj masters. all this becomes clear on the dvd. and very special it is too. packed with all sorts of late night+red wine extras .. you will feel this one for a long long time : site but for those who lke to get a little deeper into the heavier uptempo beat, there is on the way a new solo album by 'part 2', coming out on the hip hop side to ninjatune, big dada. stepping out from behind the mask of his new flesh productions, part 2, aka keith hopewell, has sorted out a strong guestlist and managed to make an upfront urban album that is totally fresh/modern and yet doesn't alienate those of us who dont listen to the pirates of london. totally wonderful. and finally (i should get paid for this..) comes the pest full lengther. while the recent single was ok, nothing prepared me for the range of the complete album. it's all over the place in style, but never getting too excessively quirky. mean and tight, and one that is going to give me many hours of pleasure thats for sure. at last - the groove of 2005 has picked up, and i feel fine. crack'on mark e ireallylovemusic
