flashy mp3 players - what the f*ck

on monday my lovely MD player/recorder died. the motor whirred its last grooves to oblivion. so naturally i needed a replacement fast. off to Dixons i went and spot purchased a cheap-n-cheerful mp3 player with a daily 512M capacity. hurray. i have entered the modern world.

that is until i dropped a commerically available mix cd (new solid steel mix from bonobo if you're interested !) onto the fragger.

2 second gaps all over the bloody thing. a little net digging reveals this to be the fucking norm! (even ipods are prone).

how come no-one complains .. mixtapes are all about the segues/joins etc .. not some nice little track breaks.

i'm sure you all have your little tricks to remove these extras, but really i dont have time/interest in file manipulation, i just wanna rip-drop-go.

apparently the new sony flash mp3 players are up to gapless playback

anyone know of more on this ?
