stuff for a stormy tuesday

been a quiet day. not a lot has happened. though i happened upon a mention of mixmaster morris on one message board which sent my grey cells into overdrive and resulted in me digging out my 1994 ambient collection when i went, for 12 months, without hearing any rock music. it was all about chilling out and collecting Pete Namlook releases. so i dropped a few of the soundscapes while working and it was nice. especially during the colourful sunset that makes my view when working from home. then after an hour or so, severe boredom hit.. i needed a beat. i needed to feel connected to the world again. i needed to hear the human voice declaring anger or love to a funky groove. back to Mr Scruff/Solid Steel i went and immediately felt re-energised. other tunes : + Company Flow -should hear this album more, so dark and dense. never gave it the time it needed. + The High Strung - about to get a uk release - more fine garage/60's style rock-n-roll beat combo tunes .. done well. a real band album without the emotional turmoil a la libertines. + muggs - dust - damn this one i enjoyed. cypress hill sound man goes solo and makes something that completely eradicates any requirement for Da Hill. dark, melodic, intense, brooding. very good. my Inbox has, once again, been filled with stuff re the Kerrang! awards .. but i cant allow myself to get too excited. especially as the presenter is none other than ex-stereophonics drummer dude. live the life. mark e.

settling the bloggin' nerves

ok hurtling towards the end of the day. i decided to remove an earlier post re kerrang! awards .. twas a basic pr mailout. i have decided not to go down that route. todays soundtrack has turned out to be : + mr scruff - new solid steel mix - a real grower. esp when on the late shift and requires something mellow. + dave j - the super incredible mega ninja death ray mix - as mentioned in new issue of hip hop connection. a fine mixtape. + korn - the untouchables - didn't make it all the way through. dont think i ever have + james lavelle - global underground - barcelona mix. + dj shadow - diminishing returns - second cd. wow. + dj shadow - in tune and on time (audio) also - in the process of tracking down evil 9 as per recent playlouder review i ended up being drawn into a thought process re ringtones. are they the future ? should ireallylovemusic be sucked into this world ? i hate them. but am i being an old f*cker in this matter... mark e

"dido rocked ..."

so. today of all days i start to add words to the blog. linked the home site to the blog, and then, entered the real world as i needed to buy my firstborn his first musical instrument. he has decided to play guitar, the other choice of violin was discussed out of the equation. the purchase is made in a shop while a 10 year old boy is trying to master the bassline to nirvanas' 'in bloom', who declares he's in a band and the rest know the song so he has to get it sorted. poor bugger. so young, and being subjected to so much pain and torment. the journey home is soundtracked by radio1 due to ease and apathy, only to hear those immortal words uttered by jo whiley regarding the corporate sanctioned V festival .. "dido rocked .." a phrase i would have never believed possible. and to cap it all, i receive an email from a friend regarding an 18th birthday party he went that was eric clapton themed. 18 years and eric clapton. the world has gone mad. or, are these omens that i should be wary of as my son sets out on his path of rock-n-roll excess. only time will tell. onwards! mark e

1st one

blog this and blog that. all feels weird. this could be somewhere where i dont have to discuss music. though the chances are fairly high that music will be the main topic contained within this. i am mark e. i run ireallylovemusic. i dont do web design. i dont do flash. i do love music. somehow the latter means that ireallylovemusic has become quite fun over the last 4 years. lots has been pushed through my letterbox. lots is not my kinda stuff, but through a method of filtering i have now established a certain rapport with the relevant labels and musicians that i always hoped to. as for the life part. well we'll get into that another day perhaps. in the meantime, i'm going to check how this all looks. ta. mark e ireallylovemusic
