umm .. UNKLE to produce Oasis

hello.
this is hidden, and somewhat interesting in the always reliable unkle77.com page :
"Due out in the UK in Spet 05 (mid 06 for the US) UNKLE have been working on a soundtrack for the upcoming movie Goal!.
The soundtrack will feature a couple of previously released UNKLE tracks along with a brand new track with Joel Cadbury of South fame on vocals.
Along with that, there will be 2 Oasis tracks produced by UNKLE on the release. "
gosh. dance production meets oasis! i wonder if they just touched up the Death in Vegas tracks ?
oh, and for today, i posted some words on the keepintime project that ninjatune have released. i dont need to tell you that its great now do i ?
thankyou

23 august - new bits

to the great unknown quantity that is the blog reader,

today i posted an interview with noodle from gorillaz. it's going to appear all over the place as most of this stuff usually does (hey i didn't really interview now did i..), but read it without any flashy shit here
also, one of the best labels at the moment - memphis industries - have got around to releasing the first album by field music. the album didn't work for quite a while for me, too many twists and turns making my head spin, but eventually the penny dropped and i succumbed to the glory of their power pop, more detail in the usual place.

^^ the return - part 1 ^^

hello.

having been offline for a couple of weeks i guess i should start spreading the love and news on the stuff that awaited my return to ireallylovemusic hq.
however, first things first. in the next few days i hope to post the interview i sorted out with yarah bravo. she features on the new excellent one self album alongside dj vadim and blu rum so i wanted to find out a little more - should make a good read all being well.

also, strictly kev has put together a dvd soundtrack package. it's not legit by any means, he has rescored the 60's monkees movie 'head'. the film and score have been aired at various arty places around the country but for those of us who have to stay in and do the ironing he has come up with a way of getting more people to see and hear the results. a mini-interview and details on how to get the film/soundtrack to be posted in the next few days.

as well as that, i hope to get a few reviews done and dusted. there will be a quick rundown by the end of the day, and more to be added.

here's a quick list : baikonour, the black dog, supergrass, the black velvets, goldblade, lazarus, the chicharones, part 2, jackson and his computer band, lotek, dj kentaro, pest, the dandy warhols, field music - and thats just the albums ! if i ever get up to date it will be a bloody miracle.

oh, and should anyone be interested i may even tell you just how 2 days in a tent (not at a festival ! with 2 kids and wife!) ended up ...

onwards

<< andy partridge joins shriekback!! >>

posting purely for any googlers as i suspect that this aint going to be of interest to any regular readers of ireallylovemusic, if there is such a strange creature.
a late night net-trawl revealed more on the forthcoming shriekback album.
this could be great :
especially the fact that old xtc chum andy partridge has helped out in several places, something i never expected to see. time heals all wounds, or whatever.
admittedly, i haven't heard any of shriekback recent 'releases' (i gave up after go! bang! - which was pretty dreadful if memory serves me right), other than i got a 3 track ep of the band going through some new tracks in 2002. the ep comprised of 'more heat than light', 'god's gardenias' and the typically weird ambient piece 'baby lions'. 3 excellent tracks which totally proved that certain bands just have something special when they decide to let the love flow. 'more heat than light' ended up on the album by the veils, featuring barry andrews son, but, having heard both, shriekback's paranoid funk suited the drama far more than the overly emotional epic indie rock stylings of the veils, though i could be biassed somewhat.

anyway, something about the notes on this forthcoming release, and the fact its getting a proper release, fills my heart with joy.
let the countdown begin.

** a singles overdose **

one and all, i will be offline for a couple of weeks as of the end of today. so of course my postbox this morning was chocka with stuff. so here's a quick rundown of the singles in the pile most are out in august :

the sonic art - do you ever feel :  atmospherics and indie rock combine. while not a gripper, there is some interesting ideas being put into action, but little to make this stand out from the glut. link
nine black alps - unsatisfied : 3rd single from the bands well received debut album. having heard the final closing few songs @ glastonbury, i expected this to be a continuation of their nirvana love, but no. the band have a well defined guitar pop side that i was not aware of before, and this seriously catchy 3 minute number is going to really help propel the band to greater heights. perfect mtv/angry teenager noises, with a very nice and sensitive b-side as well called 'lost house'. link
the bravery - unconditional : despite the fact that the press have outed this lot as a purely fabricated band, i bear them no grudges. enjoy your 3 minutes in the limelight. oh, hang on you already have. this is well crafted indie rock, with a bit of sharp synth action. a re-release of their debut single, in which the lead haircut demands that 'he just wants love', which is fair enough. let's hope he gets it. link
steve lawler - that sound : 8 minutes long. grief. expecting some banging hard house tune, when the old school italio piano house riff kicked in i smiled. is this back ? of course, once the beat kicks in very little really changes but thats the whole point, we get an obvoius vocal sample holding the focus and making the hands-in-the-air vibe complete. this totally backed up by the breakdown @ 4 minutes, where the vocal and piano are left to their own, before the machines kick the groove back into touch and the implied euphoria is resealed. classic 92 house action.
funeral for  friend - monsters : never listening to the radio (or in this case watching mtv i suspect), means i dont hear any new stuff that doesn't arrive through the letterbox, but recently, whenever i have visited an old fashioned record shop there is always a classy eye catching cover by funeral for a friend, (or ffaf for short !) on display. they are obviously getting a lot of love. unfortunately the big and brash americanised riffs with melodic heartfelt vocals make me wonder about the whole .co.uk domain they maintain. link
cadillac - locomotive : now this could be more interesting. far away echoed 'howl at moon' vocals open the proceedings before an almighty fuzzed up bass riff distreses the woofers, prior to the track hitting a monstrous uptempo vibe. production by rich 'black crowes' robinson proves that not everything has to be 1973. kerrang readers and fans of queens of the stoneage should investigate this norwegian band further i suspect. link
ciccone - my summer never comes : madonna has influenced many bands of all genres in her path to world domination. so here comes an indie rock band proving that the woman still commands dues even in 2005, but whether this libertines style of rough and ready will make her smile is another matter altogether. catchy and pleasant enough, but doesn't really go anywhere that i haven't been taken before. a splash of the coral, a hint of streets (in the vocals), and a chunk-o-doherty, but, what's this? flip the record and there is a lovely extra hidden away, 'last breathe', with a deathly dark humour lyric, melodic piano, and girl-boy vocal interplay (cerys matthews is running around the grey cells as an obvious reference) adding an extra level of spice to the action - is the death natural, or something more sinister? i guess thats up to you to decide. a far more interesting song. link

now, can i get back to shriekback please
thanks

testin testing 1-2-3-4

trying out emailing this in to the blog .
so there is a strong chance this post will disappear into the ether.
anyways, today it has all been about shriekback.
for months, nee years folks have harped on and on about gang of four and their brilliance and influence.
time to move on people. please.
listen to shriekback's jam science album.
its far far more interesting.
liquid bass lines, weirdly evocative electronica, and genuinely off the wall lyrics.
the fact that the band were a spin off from gang of four and xtc makes the whole story that more fascinating.

and news just in : new album on its way !
to be released on malicious damage.
not heard any of it, but needless to say if i do .. etc etc
