and this is why ..

.. i love the scaramanga six so much :
this excellent combination hammond organ and noise was recorded live for a radio session and was hidden away on the band recent 'horrible face' cd single, a crime for such a great track.
so, i have taken it upon myself to share this, so that more people will realise that the band are worthy of further investigation. after all, if this is dropped on a b-side, imagine the power factor that they apply to their a-sides. as the man says:
'hey dont get in my way'

tomorrow its december

hell.o
following the recent launch of the ireallylovemusic messageboard (slackers and lurkers welcome) i inadvertedly reverted back to my 16 year old angst ridden hormonal entity. yes, its been a constant diet of linkin park and limp bizkit this week. strangely the linkin park remix album does good things, all that major label production, underground hip hop, electro styles is actually makes for a pretty damn fine listen. all of which meant that i decided to venture into the world of fort minor, the new hiphop offspring by mike s from linkin park. while its not a great album it's not bad at all. but, after a few days of over the top production and 'oh my parents hate me' styled anger i needed to feel revitalised.
helllooooooo the scaramanga six.
weeks go by and i forget just how much i love their latest album, 'cabin fever' (out now properly), the sheer force of their pomposity, aural assault and taste for the macabre, both gets the blood rushing as well as putting a bad tempered grin on my face. the fact that the band with all the recent focus on leeds have been totally ignored is just beyond belief for me. guess they are just too awkward to fit any media friendly demographic, or, is it just that the band are actually shit? umm. no they are great. whatever, i care not. i'm off to spin their punked up pop masterpiece 'we rode the storm' once again, and fuck'em all.

the countdown ends.

the final part of the week long interview with akira the don is now upon us, in other words it's Fridays Question:
Cartoons - are you concerned that the use of the cartoon side for your visuals will draw accusations of 'comedy rapper' ?
Answer : No. Anyway, I have said before, comedy has always been an integral part of hiphop (and of folk, the form it replaced), and, more importantly, the best way to deal with serious issues. See Frank Zappa, John Stewart, Private Eye, etc.
in other news : ireallylovemusic is rather proud to announce that there is now a full fledged and hopefully working message board. sign up and lurk.

more gubbins for a thursday.

after weeks of struggling with the current pile i received a blast of fresh fuzzed up indie guitar pop that's totally put a smile on my face - the very un-cool, non-2005 styled return of the closing credits of britpop era, silver sun. the new single 'immediate' is a wonderful slice of retro bubblegum pop that sort of thing that never gets any love in the uk, but would do well over in certain sunshine states of america (a la the glorious superdrag who don't even release their albums anymore in the uk - grrr). so when their latest album, 'disappear here' arrived in its debut album styled b-movie artwork i knew the time was right. move over hip hop, move over broken ambient beats, tis time for fuzzed up guitars, and heart filling melodies ! 10 tracks - 30 minutes. glorious. not that anyone in the uk will care. shame.
right - back to the future - akira is heading for the charts, so here's Thursdays Question :
Timing - one major white rappers career appears to be drawing to a close (ie Final Curtain), while, yours is in the state of ascension - coincidence or some big plan strategy ?
Answer : Synergy. Everything is synergy.
Final instalment tomorrow - please be patient, its a cracker
oh, one final thing, i posted a yousendit for a friend recently. the album version of the rather fine 'take it' by age of chance.
if anyone is interested in hearing this collision of samples and indie noise from 87 then click here, surely i dont need to explain who/where/why/what about that leeds gang.
till next time, stay alert.

another question and answer from that bloke with a moustache.
Wednesdays Question :
Interscope - How did it feel to see the logo flash up at the end of the video then ?
Answer : Not as good as it feels to see my bank balance when a check comes in.

in other news :
received the forthcoming temposhark single. limited  to 2000 copies.
quick summary : downtempo electronic music which is rather gloomy, in a nice way..

@@ akira week contines - exclusive interview @@

people.
as part of my ongoing quest to see a bloke in a red tracksuit hammer the charts proper by the end of this week i have decided to ask akira the don one simple question for each day of the working week.
so seeing as its tuesday - today we get a double dose :
Mondays Question :
Who came up with the use of the Alice Cooper loop/sample for the new CLONES single?
Answer :  Me! I love Alice Cooper. And I always wanted to make a song that sounded a bit like Are Friends Electric. But Alice Already had. So I stole it, and pumped it, and rapped on it. Bosh.
Tuesdays Question :
"People Records" - (new logo hidden away on the single artwork) - got your own imprint ?
Answer :  Yes. Well, ish. It is in the growing process. Start small, etc. AT some point I'd like to be in a position to relese good music by people other than me on a deserving public. The first thing is this, then there shall be physical copy mixtapes, though.

more action and excitement in part 3 tomorrow.
in other news : posted reviews for lovely northern soul compilation, talcum soul (vol 5), lo-fi indie pop cannonball jane, 70's disco excellence from 'ecstasy, passion and pain', and other stuff,

- gaye bykers on acid - nosedive karma -

to counteract bill drummonds mad scheme for a day of no music (details : here) i am posting a rather nasty grotty track by the loveable gaye bykers on acid.
their debut track, 'nosedive karma'. the song managed to combine hip hop beats, film samples and indie rock. yes, it's dated, yes it lacks a certain finesse. but damn, in 2005 i wish there were bands as mad and bad as gaye bykers.
format : lossless wma - 27Mb : via yousendit : here
if people require a slimline version, or the link dies, then let me know
thank you.

CLONES CLONES CLONES

on monday, 21st november, sees the first record in ages that has really got me quite excited. my old mucker, akira the don, releases CLONES. his third single, and i think the first time he has released anything that hasn't been created on his laptop/fruity loops computer setup, subsequently the sound is MASSIVE. lots of seriously big electro noises, big fat alice cooper samples, and words coming at you large and proud involving bashy alongside akira. oh, and seeing as people have high hopes for this the song has a radio friendly hook that is large enough to sort out jaws. pop hit par excellence. keep your eyes peeled on the website, if adam is up to his usual tricks, expect a very nice slice of animation to complete the package. for collectors, the full set includes a limited signed 7" version and more easily obtained cd single. damn, if the album is anywhere as smile inducing as this then i am going to be one very happy individual.

another day done.

dear diary.
the post brought the new album by infantjoy, a collab between old ztt hero paul morley and some bloke from auteurs. i placed the disc in the machine, turned up the volume and got on with chores. didn't work. tis ambient to the extreme, citing erik satie all over the press release. so gonna have to wait until the mood is right for that one. subsequently, the days playlist verged on the bizarre. i had an urge for 'comfort' music, and following the mention of gay dad yesterday, got the urge rising. so i dug out the bands 2 albums and damn, did i find that their brand of glossy supergrassglamspacerock production and easy melodies enjoyable. fuck the haterzzzz. both albums a great when pumping out of your stereo and there is little to be concerned about. but, as always, too much sugary perfection can become weary .. am i ready for the beat yet (been ages since i had any such desire to listen to hip hop .. i am getting a little concerned, picked up nas's latest double cd and i have yet to even get through disc 1), tried a dreary album by dirty vegas, too damn clean and not enough dirt if you ask me. dropped some wonderful heavy dub and felt cleansed, 'ravi shankar' by dub syndicate, recorded over 15 years ago and bounces all over the place like some young whippersnapper fresh out of the studio, a fantastic track. but as the shift drags on, i ended up back in my most confortable zone of all, madness. my first true love. years can go by and i dont listen to the band, then something clicks and all of a sudden their happy/sad pop classics become the only thing that will sooth my aching ears, and tonight became one of those periods. sometimes old friends are the best company a person can have, and in my world madness albums are the oldest and most dearest of friends.
as for tomorrow - who knows .

the single is dead. long live the single.

the influx of noise in 3 minute packages is breathtaking, but amongst em are a few golden nuggets. so here's a little word'up to give you all a head start on a couple that made my ears prick up
- performance - surrender - (out at the end of november on limited 7") electro rock that fizzes and bubbles in a wonderfully addictive little way. no idea if the band can mutate beyond the obvious 'sell by end of 2005' date, but for the next few weeks this track will be totally loved. reading the details closely, a certain 'cliff jones' seems to be involved. the one and same as that gay dad bloke. time will tell. love their website. but then i would wouldn't i. not a flash-y byte anywhere.
- envy and other sins - prodigal son. this lot contacted me ages ago re a demo review they were hoping for, never got the demo, instead the next time i hear back they are signed to loog (home of the open, but dont hold that against them). from the bands visual image i dropped the phrase 'world of twist' into my response. well never judge a book etc. this is full on prog pop with totally over the top instrumentation and all manner of excellence as well as a totally radio friendly hook - the barking mad full length 5 minute version is the one to kill for. look for the limited 10" debut.
- the new shapes - waiting for a god/new queen - another ltd edition 7" out on the excellently named pop records label. the a-side has a melody that has nagged me for ages since i first spun this, it will come to me and then i'll deny all such associations, in the meantime this is a clean refreshing upbeat indie track (no heroin induced misery here !), where the crisp styled open production (by liam watson @ toerag nonetheless!) makes all the instruments jump out and make you listen and propel you to new regions of enjoyment. i have totally fallen for this track. of course, i know that the lp will never reach such heights as this ever again, but hey, i would love to have to eat my words. flip the record for a more urgent but not as catchy extra. can i listen to the a-side again please. thanks.
that's enough limited edition pleasure for now - so get off to ebay/hmv/virgin/indie emporioum tomorrow and make sure you are ready for these.

** roger - an update **

people.
in case there is anyone else as excited about the rearrival of roger on our planet (you do know he's a saviour from another planet to save us from the loss of fonk dont you ?). well, i think i can now safely reveal the tracklisting for the 'bands' second album, called 'backing off is for that other band', 12 tracks of glorious funked up weirdness which if george clinton was in charge of the interplanetary solar system would invoke a government national day of celebration upon its release, but as that aint going to happen, console yourself in the revelation of the tracknames :

bad boy bass

even weirder, is the news that bad tempered band member/associate j edgar hoova (booo hissssss), has manaaged to con a record label to release his own sonic creations to the masses (ok ok, will probably be just his ever patient mum that queues at midnight to grab this rock filled baby) in early 2006.

you have been warned, and as soon as i know more, i will pass on this detail so you know what to avoid.

from kylie to gaye bykers ..

for once, a 'dear diary' entry.
last night for the first time in ages i had the tv machine to myself. having perused the schedules i decided to give the forthcoming kylie 'showgirl' dvd a spin (out end of nov). expecting to become bored within 30 mins, 2 hours later, i am in awe of the sheer brilliance of the show. total pop perfection with dips to old era entertainment involving various 'chapters' in the show. hugely enjoyable, from its 30's glamour to full on acid/gay disco anthems via torch songs, and big band jazz reinterpretations kylie dominates and radiates the extravaganza with consummate ease, all the more impressive considering the news that was about to break.
then today i dug out some apollo 440 albums as i fancied some fun ambi-techno that would make me smile and bounce, a little research reveals that the band have just relaunched their website, and very corporate looking it is to. all the more strange, but somehow expected, when considering the route these guys have been on. from producing age of chance's epic '1000 years of trouble', and then adding crush collision styled noise to the 'heart of darkness' debut by hoodlum priest, through the industrial vs pwei styled hyperhead, before settling for the studio based core of the bros gray, trevor and howard, and noko. there is no way i can tell the complete @440 story here, the involvement of multiple personas, vocalists, permanent remix duties and the odd advert and film soundtrack track, in which they could easily wear gaye bykers on acid t-shirts in highly visible promo videos. to cap this strange personal 24 hour journey off, a dig through the best local trade-in shop resulted in the eventual conclusion in finding gboa's second album, 'stewed to the gills', on cd. i have had the cassette in the archive for years and loved it, but rarely in recent times have i seen the silver disc version, until today, as well as the cd ep of the bands debut releases. oh for the times when a major label snaps up such undergound grotty naughtiness and tries to propel them to the top of the charts (at the same time as snapping up gboa, virgin sorted out age of chance and that petrol emotion albums!).
so what happened to the gray bros along this path . well hopefully ireallylovemusic will find out. watch this space.

as the rest of the world has one i decided to make known my own personal dead zone @ myspace. i have grabbed a simple, but oh so obvious url :
a few people who make some fun noises have added me, so jump on in.
in other news : second album by roger, ('backing off is for the other band') is finished and wowing a select few, and the label that brought suede to the world has been relaunched, nude release their first shot for the charts today, by duels, 'pressure on you'. there are videos online and details : here.

we all need super disco friends really dont we ?

hell.o
following on from the revelation re the new dj shadow mix earlier, i now need to tell you about a proper release that is available to all. a double mix cd put together by 'dimitri from paris' and his mate from japan, dj muro - 'super disco friends' - the music is full on disco funk block party beats and exclusive edits, massive fun in every respect, out on dimitri's own label, 'headphone heroes'. totally excellent.
back on message, reviews posted for new stuff from coldcut, cut copy, the paddingtons as well as details on crimbo friendly packages from duran duran (!!), blondie, and the human league.
funk on.

hurry hurry.

hell.o
november. hurray. sorted out words on new singles by: absentee, korn, audioslave, rammstein, cut copy and the morenas : here

but apart from that i guess i should tell you about a couple of things that aint going to be around for long.
- dj shadow - funky skunk mix. this is a new 66 minute mix that shadow sorted out for a big expensive obey package, according to his site there are a few copies released to shops to counteract bootlegs. so get down sharpish of you want your own copy .. while the mix has some crunk thrown into it, this is as good as to be expected.
- dfa records - holiday mix 2005 - a limited one day only release that's dead cheap. all sorts in the 48 minutes, rare versions fly by. not had chance to listen yet. but if its anywhere near as good as the rest of the dfa product then your pocket money could not be better spent.

more later.

as the rest of the world has one i decided to make known my own personal dead zone @ myspace. i have grabbed a simple, but oh so obvious url :
a few people who make some fun noises have added me, so jump on in.
in other news : second album by roger, ('backing off is for the other band') is finished and wowing a select few, and the label that brought suede to the world has been relaunched, nude release their first shot for the charts today, by duels, 'pressure on you'. there are videos online and details : here.

following on from the revelation re the new dj shadow mix earlier, i now need to tell you about a proper release that is available to all. a double mix cd put together by 'dimitri from paris' and his mate from japan, dj muro - 'super disco friends' - the music is full on disco funk block party beats and exclusive edits, massive fun in every respect, out on dimitri's own label, 'headphone heroes'. totally excellent.
back on message, reviews posted for new stuff from coldcut, cut copy, the paddingtons as well as details on crimbo friendly packages from duran duran (!!), blondie, and the human league.
funk on.

november. hurray. sorted out words on new singles by: absentee, korn, audioslave, rammstein, cut copy and the morenas : here

but apart from that i guess i should tell you about a couple of things that aint going to be around for long.
- dfa records - holiday mix 2005 - a limited one day only release that's dead cheap. all sorts in the 48 minutes, rare versions fly by. not had chance to listen yet. but if its anywhere near as good as the rest of the dfa product then your pocket money could not be better spent.

more later.
