new mp3 : diefenblak - travellin' the world

rolling on.
my inbox gets jammed with all sorts of stuff, some good, some great, lots not so. but every now and then something a little different pops up with no information. i recently reviewed the new blak twang single 'travellin', a nice uk hip hop track combines a lovely laidback hip hop beat with easy going vibes, comes with a nice reggae remix. today however, i receive this : mp3
while the song is obviously a version of the blak twang song, the title indicates that the belgian guitar pop maestros 'diefenbach', are either there in the scratched up mix, or have the band been using some spare studio time to explore their desires to fuck around with some dance styled production.
basically, i'm buggered if i get the connection between the two, so anyone out there knows more, please let me know !
in the meantime enjoy this wonderful track.

noise noise noise.

hello.
still finding it hard to shake off the t.raumschmiere groove.
here's why
192Kbps mp3/YSI file - if it has expired, then buy the record
a remix of monstrous proportions involving dancehall shoutouts, distortion, industrial excess and a groove to massive it'll distress the whole street given half the chance.

thankfully, to counteract this, i have received the latest epic album by future sound of london aka the amorphous androgynous, 'alice in ultraland'. an album that completely makes me go all gooey, with its excessive mess of sitars, cosmic vibes and more importantly quality tunes. yes it may be prog, yes it has all the usual trademark stylings of pink floyd, and yes it drifts on and on, but the guys have really pulled a classic out of the bag, one that will hopefully be easier to figure out than their last album/mini-lp/remix lp/reissued double cd set, i got completely confused as to which was the proper version ! but not this time, with the return of the harvest logo (swamped out by the copy controlled logo of course!) the band have returned to the major label league and totally risen to the challenge.
oh, and minotaur shock has remixed diefenbach's 'glorious' into a cd stuttering dancefloor filler. who'd have thunk that - go find.

pop this in your hifi and watch it sweat

1.2.3.4.
- posted a few words on the new beta band compilation along with details on the extra live disc that they have added for bonus points.
- reviewed the new t.raumschmiere album. it's called blitzkrieg pop, and it currently dominates my listening. i mean really, this or boards of canada, no contest @ ireallylovemusic hq thats for sure ?
over and out.

i'm not deaf

hell.o
ladies and gentlemen, it pains me to say this, but this is beyond belief : review of blitzkrieg pop
thankfully, i ignored the review, tracked down a promo copy through the wonders of the not-so-new age, and instantly decided that this album was by far the most invigorating beast to have graced my ears in ages. the mesh of industrial noise (yes his vocals are pure manson-esque - i care not), dark-n-dirty glam stomping electro and doom laden atmosphere just makes me want a lot more than the paltry 39 minutes on offer.
best album in months for me. no fucking question about it.
other goodies that need more exposure - the dfa remx of dare (gorillaz).
currently a vinyl only treat for a few lucky spinners, but i'm sure its on the wire by now. the dfa gang take the vocals from the original, and basically strap them onto a monster dfa groove of 12 minutes with complete disregard for the baggypop fun of the source. if you approach this track as a gorillaz fan, you will probably be disappointed, but take it as a completely new track by dfa and your world will spin a little faster. awesome is an overused term these days, but i dare anyone to disagree. the track makes me want to timetravel back to their spine moving set at glastonbury.
lucky luck me.
now, back to the true heirs of the term dark pop.

all praise the power of the delete button

sod it.
i started to write a rant, but if the fragger bored me then it certainly will have done the same to you. so i hit the delete. you dont care about my hassles involving an ikea lamp anda large bedspread. my countryside based domestic bliss is of no concern to anyone who lives beyond the walls of ireallylovemusic hq. so be thankful for the delete button, and instead, rejoice in a succinct rundown on the stuff thats gone online in the last couple of days.
> new reviews of millionaire second album, produced by queens of the stone age's josh homme,
> the excellent return by the mysterious black dog on new sheffield label dust science,
> the manifesto driven punk rock of goldblade,
> some rather sublime ambient techno from skoud,
and then today it has all been about the return of the trip hop sound from france, by a duo called vacabou, a new venture for the home of ambient all saints label which soothes the head after the excess of noise in recent times.

stuff for a quiet day

hell.o.
word reaches me that the departure are too lift one final track from their debut album as a single. however, things a not quite as straightforward as getting said beauty from woolies. tis a 7" limited (only 2000 copies) affair, green vinyl with poster and sticker.  which accoprding to the blurb will not be elligible for chart positioning.
why ? dont the bpi like green vinyl ?
nah.
tis the sticker - go figure.
anyways, back to the program : reviews posted for new albums by lotek hi-fi, broadcast and the latest badly named opus from the dandy warhols, then there is also stuff about debut eps by leave land for water and christiansilva  here
other things i have found difficult to come to terms with : i like lifeblood by manic street preachers. i have always avoided the manics since they ramped up the overblown production, but on their last album, 'lifeblood', things were pulled back, james sings with more laidback focus as opposed to trying to scream you into submission. a great find for £3 that's for sure.
can i go home now?

heads up you win

hello.
just posted a review for a band that could be taken into the hearts of many if there is any justice - christiansilva.
lots of big drama, glam excess, and passion in their 20 minute debut ep. the bands website is here.
also, the dandy warhols drop their latest, and get the rundown and a link to a lovely e-card gadget thing : here
oh, and if you were watching carefully you will have spotted a snippet re the delicately named 'tits of death' recently. well, concerned about getting us office bound plebs sacked for offensive imagery, the band have updated the site. totally recommended viewing : here

remix remix remix

i knew there was suppose to be more.
you may or may not have noticed that 2005 saw the rearrival of guitar pop bands dragging in the holier than thou for cool remixer and getting said button tweaker to spruce up the originals for the dancefloor. there have even been a couple of compilations just for this type of freakiness.
anyways, some of the results are great.
so in a couple of weeks we get to hear new hotly tipped band 'mystery jets' dirty electro'd versions of the hardassed libertines single 'you cant fool me dennis' that is out today (remixes in a couple of weeks - vinyl only). first there is the justice remix that actually doesn't really strap a disco beat on at all. in fact the track is just a stripped down, rhythmically tighter affair with the song left intact and lashings of piano chord domination. then we get the weirdly named 'straight bat version' (simian's james ford has been involved apparently), whereby a pills and thrills beat kicks in and will make people of the night wiggle about while gurning in pleasure, but the track that will get most attention is the ubiquitous erol alkan reworked version of 'zoo time' where the drawn out rhythm and isolated bass line, guitar parts are seperated out and left to their own fragile vices, until a few minutes in when all manner of ramshackle extras are thrown into the equation. and, just in case you dont know, erol runs the trash club, and is a scenemaker of repute, to the degree that even Annie asked him to come up with a few 12" reworked versions of several album tracks. so erol enrolled various noisemakers to f*ck around with annies pop perfection. part one of the series of 3 was released a few weeks ago, and now part 2 is imminent.
again 12" vinyl only, for those that require details :
always too late - joakim dub mix
helpless fool for love - patrick wolf mix
always too late - joakim vocal mix
without wanting to upset joakim at all, i have to admit that it's the patrick wolf track amongst these that makes my nerves go all gooey. patrick has stripped away the basics and added layers of analogue gorgeousness (with cupid choir of course!), which counteracts the glitchy broken acid techno-fied tracks that joakim has provided.
all good.

good stuff.

hello.
hats off to clor for nicking an obvious phrase and turning it into a cracking track - does this mean i will hold back from using the words. doest it b*llox.
todays good stuff :
- new label : motivesounds recordings - 2 releases so far scheduled. firstly, harmony rich ambi-techno from swedish artist skoud, followed by big instrumental post rock noise from cardiffs own ctrlaltdelete. both releases show real promise.
- steve lawler - lights out 3 - not one for dance mixes these days, but this new 2cd set is classic old school acid house monsters and pumped up electro action. made me smile all the way to work this morning. result.
back with more. sometime soon.

flashy mp3 players - what the f*ck

hell.o.
on monday my lovely MD player/recorder died. the motor whirred its last grooves to oblivion. so naturally i needed a replacement fast. off to Dixons i went and spot purchased a cheap-n-cheerful mp3 player with a daily 512M capacity. hurray. i have entered the modern world.
that is until i dropped a commerically available mix cd (new solid steel mix from bonobo if you're interested !) onto the fragger.
2 second gaps all over the bloody thing. a little net digging reveals this to be the fucking norm! (even ipods are prone).
how come no-one complains .. mixtapes are all about the segues/joins etc .. not some nice little track breaks.
i'm sure you all have your little tricks to remove these extras, but really i dont have time/interest in file manipulation, i just wanna rip-drop-go.
apparently the new sony flash mp3 players are up to gapless playback
anyone know of more on this ?
oh and back on message : new reviews for infadels, clor, and we are scientists singles, and links to new videos from clor and my chemical romance if that kinda stuff floats your heavily mascara'd boat.

track listing online in the usual place.
also, why is so much of this new electro stuff soo dirty.
not that i'm complaining.
check these links - but maybe not from work based connections.
 - the noblesse oblige ep is totally getting hammered @ ireallylovemusic hq, their updated version of the death in vegas style is wonderful.
 - and the wonderfully named tits of death - dig around and find their demo, their appearance on top of the pops is guaranteed. perhaps.

exodus 77 - wherefore art thou ?

back in 2001 a rapper/punk/beatnik/rasta/b-boy Exodus 77 aka Sean Reveron released a mini album of 6 tracks on the regal imprint called 'just time'. he was 'found' by the labels mainstay group the beta band. legend has it that sean jumped up on stage during a beta band gig and started rapping over the tunes and that the band were so impressed that they sorted out a deal for him.
lucky us.
as well as being pals with the beta band, sean managed to summon up folks like the uk production crew, the creators, stereo mcs, and roots manuva to appear/produce on this excellent mini-lp. alongside seans scratchy/raspy singing style he drafted in his friend petra jean making the songs come to life as petras emotional funked up blues totally lift the tracks into (i believe she has a new solo album out that she mentioned years ago here). with the lifestyle that sean obviously has enjoyed it should come as no surprise to find that the mini album was not a standard hip hop set of tracks, theres some wonderful twists throughout the all too brief 23 minutes, a little reggae, a dash of punked up pil-type bass lines, and a lot of soul. the release came out, was grabbed by a select few, and then silence.
well, not quite as the duo of sean and petra resurfaced in david holmes superb 'free association' setup, thus proving david could still spot a good'un, but as ever, one album and then more silence. that is until a few days ago, when word reached  me that akira the don met up with sean recently.
anyone know if he has anything going on cos i'd love to know ?
now if those two make tunes the results could be very interesting !
anyways - enough words - more music : candle light
just wait for those tubular bells @ 2 minutes. a gloriously laid back horn filled reggae, hip hop groove thats still fresh as f*ck in 2005.

the axis of cool - a mix

in 2005 receiving an email signed by 'aoc' is a little weird considering i have used this as a shorthand way to talk about my fave band Age of Chance for years. but evenso, that's exactly what happened this morning. i have no idea if the connection is done on purpose (honest!), but i care not. The Axis of Cool have sorted out a fantastic mix - there is a snippet online along with the chance to grab the full set (@AOC at the Telegraph),  stop reading this and get downloading now :
it's totally wonderful stuff - even if they use one of my all time most hated tracks in the world ever - maybe 'they' know this ?

news : blog label launched, the boy lucas returns under new guise.

not sure how many others are out, there but the excellent Spoilt Victorian Child music blog have sorted out their own label.
so far it's mp3 based, but knowing the folks involved it will only be a matter of time before the label hits your local megabore.
go have a look at their lovely site and see if this is the way forward.
the record label website is : here
in other news ..
electro boffin, the boy lucas has resurfaced in another guise following his releases on the ultra cool output label a while ago, he teamed up with a few other musicians in bristol and settled down with a guitar and started jamming in a post rock/noodling kinda way as 'leave land for water'. being honest, the demo didn't exactly blow me away, but a year later the record proper has been sorted out and is a far more enjoyable and sounds great. a review will appear in the usual place.
