feel the love.

ok. pitchfork have declared annies 'heartbeat' the best single of 2004. they are spot on, its wonderful. the fact that its not out till feb'05 is somewhat interesting. but, and its a big but, there is a fantastic royksopp remix available from the official website for all to enjoy. more details : here the other remixes are different. alan braxe, maurice fulton, and maximo park. the maximo being my current fave with its minimal electro spikey-ness. john carpenter noises and annies whispered emotions. i am completeley smitten. on a different vibe altogether - posted reviews/news on the new singles from wrath records. onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic

news : ingo star cruiser

hurray. pete ingo, friend of many, music maker for all, has sorted out a proper website place: here hopefully 2005 will see more noises from pete .. we can but hope. mark e ireallylovemusic

boys just wanna have fun as well.

song : be gentle with me, by 'the boy least likely to'. having released several ultra limited 7" singles the band have compiled all the tracks together for their first proper album, 'the best party ever' due out in feb'05. this opening track is a perfect scene setter, with its happy joyous clap along vibe, mandolins and lovely underwater distorted guitar line towards the end. a little bit belle and sebastian, a little bit of super furries animals, a lot of fun. more info : here

fun for for all the family

blue states - the last blast song : another little mp3 for you. (gone) new single from the latest blue states album. moving on from their previous zero7 type of coffee table chilled grooves the band have progressed (or regressed depending on your opinion i guess) into a more real live band type of sound. this a lovely album highlight, even has a christmas-y kinda vibe going down on it. being 747 - the girl who fell asleep whilst watching her life flash before her eye song : more julian cope style music from Wraths twisted pop combo. the organs, the drama, the surreal lyrics. a current fave. this single has been lifted from their recent 'fun and games' on Wrath Records. onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic

sometimes life is just a little messy

one week in four i have the dubious pleasure of working from home. when this was origianlly proposed i thought that this would be a perfect time for me to catch up on the review pile that grows bigger each week. sometimes my plans work out .. and i can indeed scratch off a lot of the discs to the archive, but not always. then why is it that twice now during these weeks i have woken up from my sleep deprived state and had a serious SERIOUS urge to spend the day listening to Pop Music. this is becoming far too regular and freaky. there must be something going on. yesterday was one of those days. kylie (Light Years/Body Language of course), Girls Aloud (1st lp), Holly Valance (State of mind), and the excellent Free Me album by Emma (Bunton) all perched on top of the usual hip hop mixtapes, leftfield indie, lo-fi, etc etc. could it be that my usual stuff just hasn't provided the usual visceral thrills that they once did, or is it cos pop music in 2004 has been bloody ace. well, the kylie thing is obvious, if ever there was a title of queen on pop, then she would be the rightful heir to the throne. i recall listening to Light Years ages ago, getting to the seriously over the top camp 'your disco needs you' and grimacing severely. yesterdy however i decided that this is by far the bst record i have heard in ages. (i have to say though this thought lasted for a few hours and normal service resumed today, but i digress.)and thats before we even touch the body language album, where electroclash styled beats and production and a pop goddess are combined in perfection. as for girls aloud. prior to the discovery the music related blogmasses i always thought that this lot were just a bunch of attitude and manufacturing. but following the constant praise from well known net writers and ILM i gave in to the pressure. and by golly batman. they are right. the first album rocks it. full on. a couple of humdingers, but sod that, in comparison to the stuff that NME are pushing at the moment, the girls provide a wonderful real alternative. keane vs girls aloud. i know which i'd rather end up on a desert island with. and i mean the albums of course. holly on the other hand dropped her second album in the middle of the electroclash era to complete rejection. pah. its glorious. the natural companion piece to goldfrapps technomakeover. basically electronic noises, and studio mahines all make a fantastic racket, holly purs the usual kinda stuff that pop stars do and makes it all sound far more exciting than it really should do. the best £2.99 (inc DVD!) i ever spent. fact. i could go on and tell you how i love emmas album full of rich 60's pop songs and sonic stylings, its just so .. nice and warm. but like i said. i'll stop there. as does the temporary urge. today i woke up and had a different rush of sonic needs. i took one look at the product placement live dvd (dj shadow and cut chemist drool over their 7" collection) on the shelf , dropped this into the machine and spent the day cutting up my rug to spliced and diced 60's funk, and respinning mixtapes by dj format, andy 'portishead' smith, and dj shadow (again). different days. different ways. but hey, tomorrow i have my Foetus collection on standby .. you just never know which way the wind blows. but surely thats the great thing about music aint it ? bring it on. mark e ireallylovemusic

more special stuff : ninjatune toys.

hello. twice in one day. gosh. this time ireallylovemusic has one of the first public airings of the graphical detail on the forthcoming ninjatune toys as designed by strictly kev himself. more detail : here look good dont they. mark e ireallylovemusic

exclusive news : that petrol emotion

extra extra .. That Petrol Emotion are in the process of trying to set up a reunion tour according to their lead singer Steve Mack. "trying to arrange a reunion tour, believe it or not. Depends on whether there's enough interest." Having made their name in the late 80's as a politicised guitar pop band who embraced both the noise of the underground and the beats of the dancefloor the band were a top fave of ireallylovemusic hq, so i am somewhat keen on this. more details as and when .. mark e

sod it ..

here goes. been given all clear by the folks who made this track. first up : napoleon IIIrd - guys in bands (demo) - from the ashes of Little Japanese Toy (the one track i heard on the Wrath Supersevens was good stuff) comes this mad beach boys/SFA type of affair. harmonies, acoustic guitars strum, cheap drums and Clangers styled synths, all put together in a glorious 2 minute pop song. its a christmas cracker of a track. mark e ireallylovemusic

question ..

hello. if there are people out there following this blog would you be interested in this blog featuring MP3's of tracks that are being spun @ ireallylovemusic hq ? obviously there are 10000's of MP3 blogs already up and running .. but i keep being nudged into taking such a direction. yes/no ? if the silence is overwhelming then i know that this is an unnecessary route .. ta ! mark e

another week of noise

hello. due to blog problems i couldn't write up yesterdays joy at discovering how great the skinnyman album is. having originally disgarded the guys style i was told to listen to the album properly. so i did. and it is a classic as has been mentioned elsewhere. the way that they have interwoven the Made in Britian film thoughout the album adds a layer of depth, darkness and subsequently adds more weight to the lyrics that skinnyman is dropping over the brilliantly produced beats. then on a completely different tip i received a bumper pack from my fave noisy leeds label wrath records, including a updated version of the forthcoming Scaramanga Six album, and singles from Being 747, and Stuffy and the Fuses. i am one lucky b*stard. The Scaramanga album is huge in its bombastic-ness and the orig version just sent the neeedle into the red to much making it uneasy to listen to, this time however its a joyous 45 minutes, so straight to the top of my current pile .. more as and when .. mark e ireallylovemusic

uk hip hop

for many people : 2004 = the year that uk hiphop became a much more interesting force. special issues from HHC highlighting the scene, the streets, dizzee rascal, the grime media explosion etc etc. however i haven't been overly enamoured with the sounds i have heard so far. but i suspect this is something i need to revise, and yesterdays arrival of the new album by evil ed could be my turning point. in the last few months i have been fortunate enough to get my hands on 3 albums which are all interconnected, with each album featuring a set of playas and producers (mr thing, lewis parker, jehst, LG, mark b etc) - yungun - the essance (janomi records) - tommy evans - new years revolutions (ynr productions) - evil ed - the enthusiast (janomi records) of the three i have to admit that evil eds is the most fun for me as ed comes in as a dj/producer and calls upon various uk voices to flesh out his old school hip hop beats, whereas tommy evans in his military socialist party garb has some serious sides to his message and a few choice cuts spread across his album. the yungun album however took some getting into .. but today i'm going to give them another spin and see if it hits home .. stay tuned .. on a different trip altogether i have also sorted out a catch all page for my fave soul-n-funk party jam mixtape creators - the soulsavers. lots of superb stuff going on in their world thats for sure. more later. mark e ireallylovemusic
