words. noises and suchlike ..

hello. i've had a 3 tracker sat in the pile for ages, all twee cartoony coverart that originally put me off, i expected proper lonelycore indie pop type stuff (hence the delay in actually dropping it into the player) .. instead the thing turns out to be a monster glamtastic track of excellent fun listen to lo-fi version : here then go discover : animal planet i recently posted a review of the new roots manuva album @ ireallylovemusic (an excellent album by the way), then i hear that there is possibility that the Go! Team are to remix the next single. let's just kick back for a minute and consider this : the Go! Team remixing ? surely that goes against all that the criteria that the Go! Team album stands for, i mean, how would they remix something? strip away all the cutting edge production that Roots et al has spent months sorting out and add their trademark trebly shouty sampled chaos to his bassboom beats? personally i cant wait to hear the results. other news : and it appears that the lo-fi allstars are still in action : lo-fi allstars hurray. i reckon the much derided second album stands up better now than a lot of the other so called big beat albums .. will be interesting to see what type of sounds they are making now. too much, too much, loving every minute mark e ireallylovemusic

dj food - raiding the 20th century

a year in the making. the wait is now over. the mix combines various cut-n-paste classics (with added KISSPOWER) and featuring dialogue from the one and only Paul Morley. a year ago there was a short version of this that crashed servers all over the place, but strictly kev wanted to make the ultimate aural documentary of the genre and so set about compiling such a mix. the full fat mix is now up and online : dj food however, if the site becomes a bit heavy - i have sorted a sendit link so more of you can grab this : here (70MB file - 59 mins) trust me .. you need to hear this. thanks mark e ireallylovemusic

akira the don

if all goes according to plan of people much more powerful than yours truly, this time next year you will all have heard, bought, cried, cheered along to akira the don's sounds. therefore, to celebrate this rather special future possibility ireallylovemusic is rather chuffed to sort out a full and frank interview with the diamond geezer. ireallylovemusic : q&a section not only all that, but heres a lovely happy groove of a demo track recorded a longggg time ago - 'what a glorious thing' : song if there are such people out there - i reckon i spoil you .. mark e ireallylovemusic

grand mal vs the electro groove

grand mal : just a note to advise that one of my fave indierock bands have relaunched their website. having heard their latest 2 albums proper i soon fell in love with the bill whittens take on glam stylings, bowie-esque moods and dirty rock-n-roll riffs. according to bill, the new set of songs available via the site, are better than last years demos, which has me somewhat keen as i still play the demos a lot. classic 70's david bowie (hunky dory period) style matched against the usual grand mal rolling stones riffs .. i mean really - who needs more ? i will post one of the 'lost' demos next week. this week though, has seen a serious dig into the now passe scene of this electro revival. hurray for janurary sales ! futurism2, kraftwerk ep, martin gore cd/dvd, crossover have all been added to the ever increasing pile .. best thing so far is an old ep by radioactive man - 'fed-ex to munchen', dark basslines, breathy vocals. totally wonderful and not what i expected at all. oh, and the new roots manuva album is totally ace. onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic

death to the banners : ageofchance.com

today became the day i moved away from geocities for ever. for several years i used to host ageofchance.com there .. but due to the pain that was the geocities interface i decided to drag the site under the ireallylovemusic banner. this has allowed me to clean the site up and remove all presence of banners. so please let me introduce you to the new ageofchance.com why all this action for a band that no longer exists ? well earlier this week it came to my attention that a new album on DJ Hells International Gigolos label by David Carreta features a track called 'extreme body' which amazingly has a sample of the Leeds quartet shouting 'KISS' over a Front 242/Nitzer Ebb electro-industrial loop. wanna hear it : sample in other news - fopp are selling off Skint stuff dead cheap. go get ! lots of fun - cut la roc, lo-fi's second album (that has aged really well .. sounds better now then you remember), midfield general, and a couple of comps for £3 each. bargain. just in time for the big beat revival. onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic

alexis strum : pure pop in all its original glory

song : still standing by alexis strum this track has been hidden away in my archive for ages, and its only now that i have realised that its something rather cool. the 5 track promo ep featured alexis strum first single 'addicted' as well as some other excellent electro infused pop songs coming on strong, rock this disco, and the above track which of course more people will now have on their copies of kylies' body language album. there is little difference in the original and kylies cover other than there is a little more production sparkle added to the kylie version .. but the nuts and bolts of the song are the same. in fact the opening synths are identical .. so the question is did alexis get her album released or was she sucked into the pop machine? and, have her songs appeared elsewhere? onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic

welcome to 2005

after a period of offline-ism i return to the fray to find that ireallylovemusic has been given a boost in the arm in the form of a nudge up from ian peel in record collector (Jan'05 issue). how bloody chuffed am i ? also, there is an extract from an interview with akira the don to appear in the forthcoming issue of blowback which will provide miles of smiles for those who care (note : full version of the interview will appear online shortly after the magazine hits the shops) so, we are now smack in the middle of winter, the days are short and the mood is grey. somehow my recent purchase of speakerboxx/love below by outkast doesn't seem to fit, luckily though 'suck my deck' by ivan smagghe does sooo much more for me. dark and nasty electro dance monsters sits alongside electroclash-y styles .. excellent stuff. also i should mention that ever wonderful john doran (he of the excellent organ grinder column for playlouder) has submitted his rundown for the ATP event that occured in early december. online now in the usual place : here give me a day or 2 and we'll get some new mp3's sorted - though i have yet to figure out of what exactly .. evil ed, quasimoto, annie .. oh the choices. onwards ! mark e ireallylovemusic
